The theme for the 2017 scholarship competition sponsored by AAF Buffalo was refugees and I began to think of how the City of Buffalo could be a welcoming place to those seeking a better life. My intention with redesigning the flag of Buffalo was to remind the current residents that the city was originally built by immigrants. The lightning bolts and stars are filled with the flags of the countries most new immigrants travel to Buffalo from today and is meant to suggest that new residents will only add to our wonderful city.
